Major restoration of the nbn™ network across northern New South Wales (NSW) has occurred overnight.

There are now approximately 8,300 homes and businesses impacted by outages on the nbn™ network in Northern NSW, decreased from more than 79,000 yesterday.

Around 56,500 homes and businesses came back online after power was restored to the Woodburn Fibre Access Node late yesterday.

Other restorations have been successful in the Tweed, Casino and Ocean Shores areas.

Areas still impacted include Lismore, Ballina, Mullumbimby, Byron Bay and Murwillimbah. Many of the areas where nbn™ infrastructure is located remain difficult to access due to road closures. We are working as hard as we can to get to those places and restore services. We have more teams on the ground from this morning.

    Update from the NBN:

    NSW: https://www.nbnco.com.au/blog/the-nbn-project/severe-weather-affecting-new-south-wales

This afternoon, technicians have been able to successfully access the Woodburn Fibre Access Node and have deployed Temporary Network Infrastructure.

Customers across the north coast impacted by the Woodburn site outage may start to see restoration of their nbn™ services this evening. We will be in a position to give a detailed update tomorrow morning.

nbn has also deployed satellite Fly Away Kits to the Alstonville Leisure and Entertainment Centre, and at the Lennox Head Cultural Centre, which provide free Wi-Fi connectivity via the nbn™ Sky Muster™ satellite service. We are working closely with local authorities to deploy emergency assets to other locations as they are required.

Support at the evacuation centre at Ballina Sport and Recreation Centre is ongoing.

    QLD: https://www.nbnco.com.au/blog/the-nbn-project/severe-weather-affecting-queensland-february-2022

The nbn™ network is continuing to be restored across flood affected areas of South East Queensland.

The numbers of homes and businesses impacted by outages on the nbn™ network has fallen to around 17,000 with the majority of the impacts around the Gympie, Greater Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast areas.

The outages are primarily due to damage to nbn™ infrastructure and equipment, which require repair or replacement. nbn teams are working as fast as they can on repairs, but these are likely to go into next week.

There are currently 12 generators deployed across the nbn™ network in the impacted areas that are helping to keep local communities connected to the nbn™ network. nbn is also pausing planned outages in impacted areas until further notice.

    NSW and QLD floods

We are making progress in restoring mobile and landline services following severe weather in south east Queensland and northern New South Wales.  We know this a difficult time and we are working to get everything back up and running as quickly as possible and as soon as it is safe to do so. We have technicians on the ground in areas we can access and we have more ready to go as soon as other areas open up.  Many areas are however still inaccessible due to flood waters or are without power. We are working with power and local authorities to access the affected areas so we can get to work to bring services back online.

    Update from the NBN:

"Due to the recent severe weather event, the number of homes and business impacted by outages on the nbn™ network across Northern NSW is currently around 81,000.

An outage in Woodburn, which is owned and operated by a third party, is impacting homes and businesses across Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Currumbin Valley, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Ballina, Lennox Head and Evans Head.

An initial assessment of the damage to the Woodburn site has indicated significant damage to the site and surrounding infrastructure. We are working with the third party provider today, to access the site and determine the damage, with a view to deploy a temporary solution next week, when safe access via road is expected to be available."

While the floods and the devastation that has been caused is so sad, it is not as sad as all the abuse, threats and downright nastiness we have received here at NewSprout.

However thankfully this is a small minority.

We live and work in the same community as the flooding...with family, friends and colleagues all affected by the floods, many who have lost their houses and most precious contents.

We've already began helping with clean up efforts as I'm sure most of you have.

The good that has come out of such a devastating event is to see the great community we live in...because by far the greatest percentage of our customers and the community has shown how much they care, their patience and understanding to each other.

We sincerely thank all of you who have shown your patience and understanding to us too, many by simply waiting it out and being patient.

We wish you lots of strength in getting through these tough times.

We are not receiving any different updates from the NBN other than their Twitter page and website blog.

Yet they are telling everyone to ask their service providers for updates, so all we can do is give you an estimated guess.

This of course could be completely wrong.

    But here goes:

There are now about 79000 affected just in NSW, and mostly the Northern Rivers area.

Woodburn we think is still flooded.

The NBN should have everything there and waiting and ready to go with a big team to repair as quickly as possible once they can.

QLD had over 50000 affected just yesterday and that number is already down to 20000, because they have access there and repairs have begun.

So once Woodburn water drops, and hopefully it will drop soon, the repairs should happen fairly quickly like QLD.

But when the water drops is the question 🤷‍♂️

This could be completely wrong but that’s our prediction.

Floodwaters still making site access difficult and unsafe in some areas.
